Before & After: Nightstand

Here's a quick project I did a few weeks ago.  In reality this nightstand is probably a little small here but a. I don't have anything better to replace it with at the moment B. I love its simple look and C. we got it when we lived in Australia so I'm pretty attached to it now.  You can't tell how bad the finish was on the table in the before shot.  But it was very dark, shiny and the finish was chipped off in places.  I stripped it, waxed it, and painted the knobs and the tops of the drawers.  I think it could use a little more wax---it's looking a bit dry but still miles better than before.  The lamp is not my favorite but unfortunately it's not going anywhere.  On a whim, I decided to recover the shade, which had rust spots all over it (why?), using this stripey number that I used for these pillows.  This was my first go at covering a lamp shade and it was surprisingly easy even with the stripes.  Ok, it took me a few tries, but it was not a frustrated few tries.  It was a happy, fun-times few tries.  The key is using adhesive spray.  Works like magic!  Polka dots and stripes are perhaps a little circusy for some but I say stripes are better than rust stains any day.  I think I might find a largish (not too large!) floral pattern and try that eventually though. In other exciting bedroom news (!), I took the bedskirt off our bed and I like it much better.  I just put a fitted white sheet over the box spring and it is much more to my tastes.  Too bad the legs to the bed frame are ugo.  That jacks the look up a bit.  I bought this bed when I was pregnant because our old one broke and I was in a yank to have a real bed before the baby was born (and I was sleeping on a mattress on the floor when I was 8 months pregnant...fun times getting up).  It was between this one from LL Bean and this Charles Rogers bed.  LL Bean you say?  Yes, my friend's parents had a red version of the LL Bean bed, which is where I got the idea.  I loved theirs but now I'm kicking myself for choosing this one.  The finish is very rough and it's just not what I want at all.  Fortunately we both dislike it, so hopefully a new one is in our stars soon.  So if you're in the market for a queen-sized bed (headboard and footboard!)....

Don't get me started on my shameful floors.
