I am definitely not a Valentine's person. I never had a boyfriend back when it was a big deal so always felt like such a loser. It's hard to recover from that nonsense! I don't want my kids to ever feel that way either but the school they go to suggested we bring in cards. I'm a card maker, rather than a card buyer. It's not hard to be this way because I don't give out a lot of cards but when I do they're almost always handmade. So we had a little fun with it. I bought a few sheets of the scrapbooking paper at Joann's and some red cardstock also at Joann's. I tore the cardstock (easier than cutting in my book!) into small pieces and cut out hearts with the scrapbooking paper. I wrote 'from' on them and let my kids do the rest. They wrote their names on them and glued the hearts on. We had a nice little assembly line going on and it ended up being really enjoyable for everyone. And I think it's safe to say that my son (maybe not my daughter) knows how to write his name now! It took probably about an hour and a half, possibly less, and cost about $8 (which could have been even less b/c I had more than enough paper). Not much money or time spent on the project, but still cute and fun equals the perfect project. But of course school was cancelled yesterday and they don't have it today or Monday either so hopefully they'll still do something on Tuesday when they finally go back.
