Continued Changes

Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011

We’ve messed around with the second delivery day a bit over the years.  First it was Friday, then after eliminating the second delivery day for a while, we changed it to Thursday thinking the demand would increase.  However, that didn’t happen.  While we would love to have the demand to continue with Thursday deliveries, there just aren’t enough Thursday orders to make it a viable option.  While we don’t want to call this change permanent, please anticipate that it will last into the spring and most likely over the summer (which is a slow time of year anyway).  That said, please let us know if you would be interested in a second delivery day as the more people we are aware of who want it, the more likely it will return.  Any other ideas are welcome too!

We apologize for the inconvenience to those few who did get a Thursday delivery.  This wasn’t any easy decision but we feel it was the right choice for now.

New Offerings

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

We figure it’s time to offer a few fresh options, mostly in the form of sides.  Starting the week of March 8, we’ll be offering a Beet & Citrus Salad (lots of vitamins!) with a yogurt dressing and a Leek & Chard Soup (more vitamins!) and continue with the ever popular Mixed Green Salad (we’ll probably do an update of that soon as well).

Additionally, we’ll be offering tubs of hummus in both small and large sizes.

Check out our menu!

Week of February 8

It’s been an interesting winter, no doubt.  For the first time, Urban Tastes has canceled its deliveries due to the large amount of snow we already have plus the new storm coming!  In a normal DC winter, there probably wouldn’t be much to fear.  It seems like the storms are always played up, and are always a letdown.  This year that certainly hasn’t been the case and that is why we have chosen to cancel this week.  We apologize to everyone but think this is the best decision.  See you next week!

What’s New…

It’s 2010 and Urban Tastes is almost 2!  We intend to keep growing and adding more new and delicious meals each week.  Many of the ingredients we us are organic and we continue to work on getting locally sourced items as well—we’ve recently started getting our salad greens (when available!) from the Takoma Park Farmers’ Market.  As demand increases, we plan to start working with the Tuscarora Organic Growers Cooperative which is a great resource for local caterers and restaurants.  Admittedly we’ve got a long way to go on the local scene, but we look forward to it immensely.  As spring arrives, it will certainly become easier to obtain fresh, local produce that isn’t a leafy green.  We are already thinking ahead to those warmer days.  Tomato & Basil Side Salads?  The popular Ratatouille Tart with tomatoes, eggplants and zucchini?  Pasta with fresh tomato & ginger dressing…  Until then, we’ll settle for the green stuff.  What do you want to see on the Urban Tastes menu in spring?

Additionally, we hope to be able to add a second delivery day during the week.  While it used to be Friday, we realize that wasn’t the ideal day for many people so now we’re planning a Thursday delivery.  Please let us know if you’ll use that day. The more we hear from customers, the more likely it will happen.

You’ve probably also noticed that we’ve made the leap into the social networking world.  We’re on both Facebook and Twitter now.  Look for deals and steals on our Facebook page and see what’s up with us on Twitter.  And of course, there’s this blog.  Frankly, it’s been just a bit lacking until now.  Starting this year though, you’ll see updates on what’s new at the markets, the occasional recipe, our inspiration, be it a book, a website or a person, and any sort of promotion that’s going on like our Valentine’s Day Promotion and the opportunity to win a $100 gift certificate.

Until those warm, spring days, enjoy the snow!
